Return to Newshour

I’ve basically been on a news junkie bender for the past…since the June 27th debate last year. Holy fuck man I actually think I have more grey in my beard since a year ago. As an aside, I hate that my beard’s what’s first getting grey. If it was my hair? Sure, that looks cool. I’ve got long curly hair, so I think it’d look classy. Dignified. Now I just look like some scraggly sadsack. I might even go clean shaven if it gets worse. Funny how I don’t care if I start balding up top, but this is what gets me.

Anyway, I’ve been too knee-deep in the news. I’ll always be a junkie, but I’ve got personal projects piling up that I haven’t been getting to because OH MY GOD DONALD TRUMP WIPED HIS ASS WITH THE CONSTITUTION (which he did, and it is severe, but there isn’t anything that means I have to know about it RIGHT NOW versus in the evening news or weekly summary. In addition.) I am a mere US Citizen who volunteers for political causes when they align with his perspective and pays attention to, and engages in, local politics. I am not a constitutional lawyer. I need to remember this. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still study up on historical rulings and practice brief writing because I’m a legal nerd who never went to law school, but I can do that without subsuming myself under the news media titan.

I’ve wanted to flesh this site out with things for several months now. A recipe list. A Devil May Cry fanpage. More structured essays instead of my sparsely researched blog posts. On that note, a lot more blog posts. It’s my diary basically. A Drum n’ Bass page that would likely incense any genre purist. So I’m committing to that as well as my news media diet being reduced. From now on:

  • PBS Newshour, Nightly
  • Washington Week, Weekly
  • Stay Tuned/CAFE Insider, Weekly
  • Heather Cox Richardson’s Newsletter, Daily
  • The Daily Show, Weeknightly
  • FRONTLINE

Shout-out to Heather Cox Richardson for actually indirectly helping me to come to this conclusion. But yes, that’s a significant reduction for me. I know I have a problem. I don’t want to fix it entirely. Just enough to not be this, but fat:

Also, the Atlantic from time to time, and whatever David Brooks writes (since even when I disagree with him, I find his articulation and perspective valuable.) BUT THAT’S IT
